Role: Graphic Designer

Designed visual materials including brochures, event signage, and branded collateral for arts nonprofit. Produced three risograph books, one featured at the Huntington Library. Expanded role to include digital marketing, managing WordPress website updates and email campaigns. Initiated and launched the organization's first email newsletter in 2020, fostering stronger community connections and engagement.

My role as the graphic designer in the very small team that made up Clockshop in 2018 encompassed much more than simply pushing pixels. While working at a nonprofit undoubtedly means helping out with everything from setting up events to updating websites and learning various donation platforms, a lot of my contribution ended up learnng operational. I migrated everyone onto G-Suite, set up new systems for handing social media content and distrubtion, established an email newsletter that still gets out sent out today and became the webmaster.

My work had me taking on all kinds of hats, from social media management to book publication. I created signage for the events I had designed event pages for on the webiste, manned tables, hauled materials, rode a scissor lift, took long walks through the Bowtie, and survived a shutdown with Clockshop, and it’ll always be a formative experience!

Branding

Expanding within a framework

Clockshop’s branding at the time was very clean—black, white, Circular in various weights, photography. I experimented with adding color into the branding, while keeping within these contraints— color coded event types, overlaid colors, bolder weight choices. In the end, the branding was a bit disjointed, but it opened the doors for further exploration by the following graphic designers that took the helm after I left. Their branding today is a combination of flat colors, photography, simple typefaces and has a little bit of every designer that has touched Clockshop’s branding before and since.

❸ After graduating Otis College of Art and Design, Rapid Nostalgia lives on. This image is a design rendered to look like a risograph print, a series of postcards depicting the various cold war era emergency sirens that still stand around Los Angeles today.

❹ The first edition of How to Give Your Work Away for Free, by Matthew Manos, featured a book sleeve that folded out into a small poster.
